OBJECTIVE

Toapprove ofthevalidity ofanewdiagnostic tool— theRussian Aphasiological Test (RAT)— bycomparing theresults oftheRATandtheScale forassessing theseverity ofspeech disorders inpatients with local brain lesions (Wasserman scale), commonly used intheRussian-speaking settings.

MATERIAL ANDMETHODS

Onehundred stroke survivors were tested with RATandtheWasserman Scale. Acorrelation analysis wasconducted between theoverall scores ofthese twotests andscores forindividual tasks that check theintegrity ofcomparable speech skills (comprehension, repetition, naming, andstorytelling from theplot picture).

RESULTS

Using theSpearman correlation coefficient (ρ=–0.85, p<0.001), asignificant negative correlation wasfound between thetotal scores forthetwotests. Amoderate negative correlation wasalso found using theKendall correlation coefficient between individual tests (p<0.001). Therefore, thecomparability ofthemethods isconsidered confirmed.

CONCLUSION

This study demonstrates theconsistency ofRATandWasserman scale results, which confirms thereliability ofRATasacomplementary tool inassessing speech disorders inpatients with local brain lesions.
